Supportive care is part of cancer care
Supportive or palliative care can be provided alongside cancer-directed treatment. It focuses on symptoms, function, communication and quality of life.
Common areas of support
Care may address pain, nausea, fatigue, nutrition, sleep, emotional wellbeing, rehabilitation and other symptoms related to cancer or its treatment.
Individualized support
The appropriate plan depends on the person's symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. Ask the oncology team which supportive services are available.
Important: Treatment decisions depend on cancer type, stage, biomarkers, overall health and individual circumstances. Discuss options with an oncology team.
